Cheap Posters

Finding the right gift for some people can be extremely difficult to do. However, if you are interested in creating a gift for a cartoon lover in your life then consider putting together your own cartoon movie poster gift baskets. These gifts will contain posters, movies and other fund animation themed gifts.

Create a Cartoon Movie Poster Gift Basket

Step No. 1: Select Your Basket

The first step in putting together your animated movie posters gift basket is to select a basket. The size and shape of the basket is going to determine how many items and what items you can put in the basket, and the color or basket design will need to reflect the tastes of the gift’s recipient.

Step No. 2: Find a Theme for Your Basket

The next step is to find a cartoon theme for your gift basket. For example, you can have a superhero theme, a Looney Tunes theme or a cartoon character theme. Your theme will need to reflect the type of cartoons that the gift’s recipient enjoys.

Step No. 3: Buy Animated Movie Posters

Step three is to buy the signature posters. These posters will be the foundation of your gift. Select great looking posters of various sizes. For example, you can buy a super large door size poster, a standard wall size poster and a couple of mini movie posters.

Step No. 4: Pick Out Other Items

Next you will want to select other cartoon themed items to fill your basket with. You may want to include a cartoon character mug, cartoon themed books, cartoon themed figurines and cartoon themed stickers. You can also add food items to your basket like popcorn, candy and drink mixes. You can also add in fillers like Easter grass. For a tasty addition to your gift consider adding cartoon character cookies.

Step No. 5: Wrapping

The final step is to wrap up your cartoon movie poster present. To start with you will want to tear off a sheet of colored cellophane that is large enough to wrap your basket. Lay this down flat on a table and place your basket in the center of it. Draw up the sides of the cellophane and tie the ends together with a large ribbon. Add a cartoon themed gift tag or a cartoon themed ornament.

Vintage Movie Poster

Filed under: Movie Posters — Tags: — admin @ 7:03 pm

Linen Backing is the most widly accepted method for preservation and restoration of original vintage movie posters and other artwork. Most dealers and major auction houses routinely offer linen backed posters in their inventories or auctions. It is not uncommon for collectors to have their entire collections linen backed.

The process of linen backing involves fixing the poster to a Japanese Masa paper with an acid free paste and then theMasa paper to acid free linen/canvas.Theposter is cleaned and deacidified during the process and any foldlines and imperfections such as water stains and even ink can be removed by a skilled restorer.

Linen backing is technically reversable, providing the correct paste has been used. It is certainly possible to reback a poster without too many problems but if the poster is simply demounted it will not be returned to its original condition.

Paper loss can be repaired and artwork retouched by the best restorers. Some use extensive airbrushing which cantend to detract from the authentic nature of the poster. Borders can be repaired or replaced using airbrushing and other techniques.

The majority of linen backers are based in the USA with one or two others in England, Franceand Australia. The results can vary significantly and some take shortcuts and use inferior materials.

You should do as much research as possiblewhen choosing a linen backer and, ideally, look at some of their work before proceeding and check their references. Remember, you get what you pay for. The best materials cost money and there are no real shortcuts if you want quality work.

Linen backing generally should enhance the appearance of a movie poster making it easier to frame and more appealing but a poorly backed poster can significantly diminish the value of a poster.

Some posters are ideally suited to linen backing, particularly Italian and Indian posters which are printed on fragile paper that easily separates along the foldlines. Australian Daybillsare also suitable for linen backing and look particularly impressive when backed by a professional.

Heavy stock posters are best left as is but they can be paper backed. The downside of this process is that the poster must be stored flat and can never be rolled.

Linen backing can add to the value of posters but this depends on the quality of the work. When buying linen backed posters on eBay or elsewhere you should always ask the following questions:

  • Who linen backed the poster and when?
  • What was the condition of the poster prior to restoration?

It is possible to determine the extent of restoration by holding the poster up against a strong lightbut it is best to know the details before you purchase the poster and most reputable dealers should be happy to provide this information.

Many of the major auction houses and dealers offer linen backed posters. This is some testimony that the process is widely accepted.

I would certainly recommend linen backing by a qualified restorer. Many posters are greatly enhanced by the process. However, when displaying posters you should always be aware that direct sunlight can cause fading. Linen backed posters can be more easily framed than unbacked posters but another consideration for display is to use magnets. The beauty of using magnets for linen backed posters is that the posters can easily be switched without having to remove frames.

Original Movie Posters

Filed under: Movie Posters — Tags: — admin @ 7:01 pm

Movie posters are colorful advertisements for movies that quickly become collector items for movie buffs. Movie posters are posters displayed in public places for people to view and learn more about the movie depicted on the poster.

A commercial movie poster is mass-produced for direct sales to the public. People love to buy posters with scenes from their favorite movie. They may hang it in their bedroom or living room. They make great conversation pieces. Video posters are distributed to rental stores to advertise films. Cable and TV posters are used as promotional material for movies that will soon be featured on a major network or cable station. There are posters that promote movies and come with the purchase of a product as a special promotion. Finally, there is the anniversary issue, special release and limited edition movie posters that are released in limited quantities. These movie posters are favorites among movie poster collectors.

There is also other type of movie poster called advance poster. The purpose of this poster is to promote a movie well ahead of the release. Movie posters can indicate that a movie won an Academy Award and are called award posters. There are some movie posters that advertise two movies instead of one, and these are called combo posters. There are double-sided movie posters, and posters called features that highlight short films and cartoons. Review posters are issued when a movie gets a good review.

Movie posters can easily be bought online or in poster shops. You can also order posters by mail or phone,

Classic Movie Posters

Filed under: Movie Posters — Tags: — admin @ 7:01 pm

Hand painted crates and sandwich boards were the first forms of movie advertising. However, the turn of the century saw the introduction of posters with vibrant colors and pictures and limited words. These old movie posters were used to promote a variety of products and services, including the early cinema.

One of the best ways of maintaining the value of an old movie poster is to restore it. If you plan to remove tape residue, rubber cement thinner is very effective. Using a q-tip, rub a small amount on the spot to be removed. Be careful not remove the poster ink. If the old movie poster is very valuable or if there is lots of tape residue, it is better to have it restored by a professional. Old movie posters were printed on high-acid, low-grade paper. So the process of deacidification helps arrest the deterioration.

There are three methods of de-acidification — linen backing/mounting, lamination and encapsulation. The process of linen mounting is when a restorer fuses the old movie poster onto linen fabric. The poster is strengthened, facilitating necessary repairs and reducing the possibility of the poster getting torn through mishandling. In lamination, there is a clear coating on both the front and back of the poster. If the poster is to be handled a lot, this makes it more durable. However, this process should be handled by an expert, as there is a possibility of destroying the intrinsic value of the poster. In encapsulation, the old movie poster is first de-acidified and then sealed in an acid-free polyester enclosure. This process protects the poster from handling, and keeps it free from dirt and air contaminants.

Movie Posters

Filed under: General — Tags: — admin @ 7:01 pm

Movie posters and tv movie posters have for some time been collectors items and though there are lots of movie buffs out there, tv memorabilia is slowly catching up.

A poster is a flexible mode of visual communication and a powerful promotional tool. The movie industry has always been aware of the advertising power of this inexpensive medium of communication. Movie posters are designed by studios to build awareness about a film by exploiting the visual reach and appeal of this dynamic medium. Individual pieces conveying the essence of a movie, through pictorial depiction in a sheet of paper, have found immense popularity among the masses. It is difficult for even the most cynical to deny that movie posters belong to an entirely different genre of art.

Movie posters have long been in demand by collectors. Since the popularity of the 1970s vintage poster market in France, this hobby has caught up to the masses across various countries.

Moulin Rouge created history when it was auctioned for $220,000 at a fine art poster exhibition. Deciding on what is a collectible poster is a subjective decision. However, there are a few standard and obvious parameters that most collectors apply while considering a poster as a collectible. A particular poster has to be in demand, it has to be in good physical state, and the rarity of the poster plays an important role in such decisions.

There are different forms of movie posters. Advance movie posters, anniversary issues, award issues, combos, regional, premium, holograms and road shows are a few of the movie poster categories. Most movie posters are distributed by studios for promotional purposes.

A movie poster collector can keep track of the various auctions, exhibitions and museum collections and movie poster dealers with sources like Movie Poster Price Almanac magazine, Jon Warren’s price guide and other collector’s magazines. There are many online collector guides as well, like Jon Warren’s online guide. Most collectors vie for the authentic and rare studio-produced posters, and vintage, heritage and anniversary issues. The non-collectible posters are also desirable options for many. They are the reprints of video, cable and TV posters, and special promotional posters. Limited editions are also very much in demand.

There are many online movie poster dealers and distributors as well. www.nostaligic.com is one of the oldest websites on movie posters. It provides both original and illustrated versions of movie posters. www.learnaboutmovieposter.com provides all information about movie posters.

Movie posters are not just a collector’s delight. Many individuals consider them a visual treat and adorn walls and doors with posters of favorite stars and youth icons. Not all movie posters are expensive. The market abounds in many cheap options.

Be a Star Collecting Celebrity and Movie Memorabilia

Be a Star Collecting Celebrity and Movie Memorabilia

America loves Hollywood, and you can own a piece of the glamor when you collect celebrity and movie memorabilia. Find out what to collect and how much it is worth.

Since the advent of the moving picture, America has surely had a fascination with Hollywood and movie stars. This is most clearly seen in the high value of celebrity and movie memorabilia. Most people want to know if the piece of movie magic that they are hanging on to has any value. There is no way to tell which specific items are going to sell for the highest amount, but there are few general categories that sell for a lot of money. The best prices come from original items such as costumes, props, posters and autographs.

The market for movie memorabilia is expanding so rapidly that many collectors buy items such as T-shirts, posters, and replica props from current blockbuster movies hoping that in the future they will be worth a lot of money. Even the complimentary gifts that are given out prior to an opening can be worth something. A free promotional wristwatch that was given out prior to the release of The Nightmare Before Christmas is currently selling for about two hundred dollars.

Nearly everything connected with the movie business is considered movie memorabilia. Merchandise from the original Star Wars films has been selling for between two and four hundred dollars. Mickey Mouse watches have been selling as high as seven hundred dollars at auction sites. Original costumes and props go for the highest prices. But to start out collecting movie memorabilia, consider film posters; most film posters can still be bought online for low prices. The most expensive posters are from vintage films of the Golden Era, the 1930s and 1940s. Posters from the cult horror and science fiction films of the 1950s are the next most valuable genre, currently valued at up to eight hundred dollars. Of course, the very rare items fetch the best prices. The only existing copy of 1933’s The Bride of Frankenstein poster recently sold for $330,000 at auction.

With regards to specific actors, the paragons continue to dominate the market. Autographed items from Humphrey Bogart, Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Greta Garbo are the highest selling, going for between eight hundred and five thousand dollars, depending what the item is. Autographs can be found on virtually any surface. But current actors can fetch substantial prices too, for example John Travolta’s white three-piece suit from Saturday Night Fever recently sold for $145,000. If you want to collect celebrity autographs, authenticity is of primary importance. Ideally the autographed item will have a Certificate of Authentication. The credibility of the certificate depends on the reliability of the issuing party. Know your seller and check their credentials to see if they belong to a reputable organization. Research the provenance of an item, which includes how, when, and where the autograph was obtained. Provenance is critical to determining the autograph’s value.

There are some guidelines to determining the value of celebrity and movie memorabilia. Age naturally plays a role. Older pieces of movie memorabilia are worth more because recent autographs and memorabilia are easier to obtain. This is also where rarity comes into play. Older pieces of memorabilia are more likely to be one of very few of their kind. If a celebrity is no longer living, then he or she can no longer sign autographs, and so the value of an autograph increases significantly. However, rare items of poor quality will not be as valuable. The better the condition of a piece of movie memorabilia, the more valuable it becomes. To be worth anything, an item must be whole and clean, in as close to mint condition as possible.

It goes without saying that to have any value at all the movie memorabilia has to be genuine. Experts can often detect counterfeits from tiny details, such as a tag showing the name of the studio, designer, or actor, studio marks, photographs showing the item associated with a particular actor or actress, the remarks of someone associated with the film, or a Certificate of Authenticity issued by the studio or a reputable authenticator. There has been a sharp increase in the market demand for movie memorabilia in the last ten years. And while everyone would like to know which memorabilia is going to be worth a lot in the next ten years, there is no concrete way to tell what will be the next big thing. However, collectors suggest that the top selling collectibles will be anything from stars that are popular and successful in their careers, and from wildly popular movies like Titanic and cult favorites such as Sideways.

Filed under: General — Tags: — admin @ 1:01 pm

Although there are lots of things you could collect to increase the value of your tv memorabilia collection, one of the things you could try keeping hold of is your tv guides.

People when they get a bit nostalgic like to look back and see the programmes they used to watch.

Below is an article showing what they like about their guides.

Television Guide – Choose The Quality!

The popularity of the TV program is rising every day with the new exciting shows, series, movies, etc. We are witnessing the birth of many new TV channels as well, so it is quite hard to choose between such varieties. To be able to choose between so many things offered one would definitely need a good television guide.

What is the purpose of a good television guide?

It is very simple. TV guides are there to help you out choose the best quality entertainment for yourself and your family throughout the day and evening. A good TV guide will give you all the information what’s on the TV and also will highlight what you shouldn’t miss.

You will be able to choose from various channels either if it is the satellite TV, terrestrial TV or cable TV.

Many guides could be found on the internet. A good internet television guide will also be able to offer you TV listings, TV highlights and a complete program guide from A to Z. You will be able to search online for your favorites by just typing in the titles and hitting the search button.

The TV highlights are definitely useful since by reading those you will get the brief information and summary of some of the movies and shows which shouldn’t be missed. Also you will know the best program offer for that particular day so you could plan your free time.

It is always nice to know in advance what is on the TV, on which channel and at what hour without roaming around through the channels trying to find something fun and interesting.
